Fiona Smith, is an experienced road cyclist (that loves cake!) from Falkirk & rides 3 times per week
Fiona originally joined Falkirk Cycle Touring Club (CTC) in as a teenager, whilst still at school, and did her first big run, 100 miles in 8 hours. Fiona later joined Stirlingshire Road Cycling Club, doing time trial events (10, 25 & 50 miles) from the age of 17 – 20 years.
For about the next twenty years she mainly did solo rides, taking up Sportives in 2008 while really enjoying the change of scene and different courses throughout Scotland and Northern England.
In July 2019 Fiona saw a post on Facebook advertising the Dunfermline Cycling Club’s New Starts Ride which was perfect timing as she had been thinking about re-joining a club for a number of years. Fiona was looking for a bit of cycling company, but was concerned that she might not be able to keep up! Fiona was really impressed with the no drop policy so went along to give it a go – the chance of a friendly group cycle, coffee and carrot cake was too good to miss! The Club runs a new start ride on the first Saturday of the month - look for details on our Facebook page if you would like to come along.

Fiona tries to ride 3 or four times a week, depending on the weather, sometimes on a turbo trainer, averaging 50-60 miles per week in the winter. In the summer/sportive season I try to average 100-150 miles per week.
Apart from eating carrot cake, the two cycling achievements she's most proud of are:
starting and completing sportives in 2008 (still going strong!), completing the last ever Pedal for Scotland Big Belter (104 miles) in 2019 with other new club members.

Outside of cycling I walk my lovely big standard poodle Harry – if only he could cycle!
