Muddy Good Fun - SCX 3 at Fife College

Back for the third time the Dunfermline Cycling Club Cyclocross Race returned to Fife College for another Sunday of racing. Having forged a reputation for being one of the muddiest and most challenging courses, 2017 was to be no different. In the lead up to the race it was already looking special, Paul Davies and his team of dedicated organisers and volunteers had attracted enough entries to potentially make this the biggest CX event ever in Scotland, and on the day this was confirmed with an astonishing 594 racers turning up on the day, a 12% increase on last year . For the organisers and volunteers from DCC and Sandy Wallace Cycles this race had began long ago, it had taken months of organisation and securing help from Fife College and many other supporters. The Saturday before the race was spent setting up the course, hoping that the tape and stakes would last the night. Sunday started at the break of dawn. Paul and his crew arriving just after 6am, putting the final touches on the course. The facilities Fife College provided were perfect, the two car parks were brimming with cars and camper vans during the day, many riders making huge journeys to spend a Sunday getting muddy, testament to the reputation the race has built.

The racing was unanimously praised, the slight changes to last years course had been favoured by all, and despite the usual mud slog, the racing was close and fast. DCC would like to thank Fife College and John Buchan for their continual support in providing facilities to use and grass to play on. We would also like to thank Sandy Wallace Cycles for their unwavering support of this race. The race would not have been such a success if it weren’t for the huge effort and commitment from the race organiser, Paul Davies. Paul has asked to pay particular gratitude to his team of organisers, Drew Bell, Barry McCleery, David Tibbs and John Woodrow.
